FAUNA 2 - THE DESERT

Fauna is a young initiative based in The Hague, creating one-night platforms presenting music, art and innovative projects. Founded to break through the boundaries of existing cultural islands, Fauna aims to outline a space where new creative forms find stage and audience.

For it’s second instalment Fauna summons the desolate landscape of the Desert with local and international musicians for a night of dance-oriented experimental showcase of the most exciting young artists around. From hazy vapour-filled house explorations, to Berlin-school walls of synthesiser sounds, to girl duos and solo boys, 10 acts under one night bring the horizontal grandness of the desert to The Hague.

In conjunction to the music program, Fauna also invites young interdisciplinary artists to transform the catacombs of HOOP into an exhibition space where the works collaborate with the musical performances in a joint concert, creating a unique atmosphere alien to the usual nightlife experience.

In biology Fauna is used to describe the diversity of animals in a place or time. With every edition a geographical biome is chosen as the starting point for the participating artists to reflect on. This edition's center of focus is the Desert.

If the world would be a different one and tennis a cosmo-proletarian form of sport, this would be the music playing in the clubhouse, after the match. Zink Tonsur, one half of the Frankfurt / Germany based performance-duo Les Trucs and co-founder of the tape label MMODEMM performs sonic experiments on his analogue gadgetry somewhere between prog-, library-, dirty house music and the french open.

Electronica influenced by Krautrock, Post-rock, and Noise, where performance and dance music go hand in hand. His music is mostly based around one main foundation that gets supported by other phasing and spacing undertones. Which creates a big atmosphere, going for the epicness and massiveness of noise. Also his music contains emotions that are mostly ignored

yEs!yEs! is the logical continuation of the ongoing project: Yes..Pinkpink that initially started as a ravey research on the danceability of his own soul, gender & the color p.i.n.k. 1,5 year a go he started focusing more on producer-side of his work: Yes!yEs! continues as a stripped version of Yes..Pinkpink: Hardware based and more focused on clubs: A hybrid of contemporary Club music, slightly ecstatic & slightly sensual, but most of all very danceable.

In his installations, Abel Wolff embraces the replaced equipment of the past and combines these 'outdated' machines with the present day technology. Together they form a new machine of which the hardware, without losing its' practical functions, is as well given the role of the subject, resulting in a seemingly closed circuit wherein the work appears to address only that what had made it to exist.

Hugo Rocci graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2015, is a painter, animator, film maker and designer. He has found a niche in culture from where he produces his fascinating oeuvre. This niche is an ‘in-between zone’, and it is so on various levels. He addresses the zone between daily life and the driving lust for the grandiose that make people yearn for achievements. His work hovers between street theatre, moving paintings, fashion statements, commercial road-signs, enormous artefacts, and heroic human failings.

My work mostly consists out of videos. Video has the extraordinary ability to move between digital and physical, I try to do this through the use of different layers of image and sound. My work is about this search for physicality in video, the world inside digital screens and online loneliness.
